I’m a fan of kitchens being comfortable rooms that you want to spend time in,” says designer Gwyn Duggan. This spacious 16-by-20 foot kitchen gave her the opportunity to create just that. Duggan introduced comfort through upholstered seating, including wing chairs cleverly covered in easy-to-clean outdoor fabric and a banquette built into one end of the island. Limestone counters, walnut floors, and aged-wood beams lend character to the new construction. Below the vent hood hangs the crowning touch, a medallion found in Savannah. “I’m always looking for that one element that catches your eye and makes the space a little different,” says Duggan. Says judge Susan Smith: “The space has a lot of depth and detail.”
